GARY RULEY’S PICKIN TRADITION - Larry and Jenny Keel have both benefited from having lived in close proximity to a living Bluegrass legend, such as Gary Ruley is… and so have countless “musicaners” who have known Gary and his father, Pat and brother, Rooster- all together who have played a major part in the traditional music scene in the Shenandoah Valley for many, many years. Gary is a flatpicking guitarist in the most powerful tradition of Clarence White and Tony Rice, and has performed with such greats as Hall-of-Famer Bobby Lester (Bill Monroe’s fiddler), Mack Wiseman, Curtis Burch and, of course- Larry Keel. This project, “Pickin Tradition” is a true menagerie of Bluegrass hard driving tunes from the tradition of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, the Stanleys, to NewGrass and even Rock and Jazz.
