Join Larry Keel Natural Bridge and friends for three days of instruction, small concerts, incredible food and camping. You’ll be hanging out at the Elk River Inn, Cabins & Restaurant located in the high peaks of West Virginia. Elk River has plenty of things to do when you’re not learning a new lick. Fly and spin fishing for trout, hiking and mountain bike trail right out the door. Or just relaxing with a cold beverage near the campfire.

You may arrive on Thursday for dinner and settle in to your tent. All meals from Thursday evening through Sunday breakfast are included in this very special weekend. Also guitar, mandolin, banjo and bass guitar instruction will be the highlight. Evening picking sessions on Thursday, Friday will build up to a very special concert Saturday evening to cap things off.

Arrive Thursday 4-7pm Check in Dinner will be family style starting at 6pm. Meet and greet with Larry, the band, special guests and fellow campers.

Friday morning coffee begins at 7:30 Breakfast is available from 8-10am

Free time 9am – 12:30pm to fish one of our local rivers such as the Williams, Elk, or one of the dozens of native brook fisheries. If you’re not an angler this is great time to hike, bike or just relax.

This just in!!  The Larry Keel Experience has a sound track included in a new film by Confluence Films.  They do WORLD CLASS movies about fly fishing, really the absolute best in the industry and the Keels are excited to be part of this one! Far be it from Larry Keel and his fast-pickin, fishin master band to miss out on an opportunity to be involved in a FISH PORN project as cool as this! no lover of travel, nature, exciting settings and music can resist!!

Following on the heels of the successful movie projects DRIFT and RISE, Confluence Films, LLC will release their third feature-length movie, CONNECT, in the fall of 2011. Before the film is released on DVD and Blu-Ray, you will have the chance to view the new movie “on the Big Screen” by attending one of the tour events listed below. Check back on a regular basis for more tour dates that will be added soon.

The world premiere of CONNECT will be in Bozeman, Montana on Saturday, October 8, and DVD’s of CONNECT will be available for sale beginning November 4, 2011.

INFORMATION ON HOSTING A CONSERVATION SCREENING OR EVENT:
With the new movie available to the public on DVD in early November, for the month of October, Confluence will offer retailers, groups, clubs, and other select entities the chance to exclusively premiere the new film in their area as a fundraiser for fisheries-based conservation projects. “With the first two films, the program that we established for pre-release conservation screenings raised over $50,000.00 for a number of different organizations and projects,” said Confluence’s Jim Klug. “With the new film, we plan on blocking off a month just before the release of the DVD where groups can premiere the film in their area and hopefully raise even more money for fisheries projects.”

Groups and entities interested in setting up or scheduling a pre-release screening and fundraiser during the month of October should contact Jim Klug of Confluence Films at (406) 585-8667 or by email at jim@yellowdogflyfishing.com. The one condition to qualify for a showing is that a major portion of the proceeds and profits from all screening events should go to a legitimate fisheries-related conservation group, project, or program.

History of the Poor Farm: The pre-civil war Code of Virginia declared that the overseer of a county may purchase, sell, or cultivate lands for use of the poor. (They may provide) a Poor House, Work House, and other buildings, hire physicians, nurses, and servants.

In Greenbrier County the poor were housed at the County Infirmary, the Poor Farm, located one mile from Williamsburg on the road to Frankford. The number of houses is not known, but the numbers of tenants were listed in the Federal Census. From 1820 to 1944 there were county sponsored residents on this property. The numbers ranged from a dozen to three times that and they lived in communal housing at one end of the property. Women and children shared accommodations, some women were widowed and some children were orphans. The men did whatever farm work they were able, under the supervision of a Poor Farm Superintendent.

There is a cemetery of unmarked graves, two of the ‘row houses’ are still standing and the property has remained fully intact through private ownership since the 1940’s.

This was the government process of welfare, disability, child services and food stamps for over a century.
